England has had it. There has been a lot of turmoil going on at his place lately.
It has seemed as if the whole government and economy was out of whack. And to add to that, he has been having serious migraines for the past few days. It was quite stressful really.
He had observed his room and noticed that it is in serious need of tidying up. There were papers scattered on the floor, some clothes lying about. He really needs to clean his mess.
But…then again, who could blame him? Being a country is really tough.
The man quietly muttered a few complaints as he exited his room.
A thought crossed his mind and he remembered that he hadn’t had a cup of tea since yesterday and finally decided to make himself some.
As England went into the kitchen he noticed a little form walking about, picking various kitchen utensils. This caused the Englishman to blink in surprise.
“(y/n)…what are you doing?”
This time, he caught you by surprise. You have accidently let go of the teacup you were holding as a result.
Your (e/c) eyes widened and began to pick up the pieces of the cup.
England sighed irritably but knelt down and began to pick up the shards too.
“Seriously (y/n), do you really have to cause such a mess this early in the morning?”
“Run along now. I will finish up here.” The Brit said cutting you off.
You didn’t need to be told twice. You quickly got up and scampered on to your room.
Once you got in, you locked the door and sighed. All you wanted to do is to be useful and make him a cup of tea. Everything you do always seem to end badly.
You were the country of (c/n). You were just a small island nation of the coast of England’s shores. He found you not so very long ago and decided to take you in. It has been a few months since he found you but all you received from him was either a quick glance or a cold shoulder. You really didn’t know what you have done to make him avoid you all the time …But you always asked yourself;
Is it my fault?
Your heart sank at the thought.
“I must have been such a burden to him…always looking after me…” You mumbled softly.
After a few moments of silence in your room you came across an idea that could make the Englishman like you more. You got up on your feet and look around your room for a small box and maybe a wrapping paper and a pretty ribbon.
You had much difficulty doing this on your own considering the fact of how small you were. It took half an hour for you to finish. Once you thought it was good enough, you tied the ribbon into a bow and taped it in place on top of the neatly wrapped box.
Maybe this could finally make England like you more. Just thinking about it gave you butterflies in your stomach and made you feel all happy inside.
You shall give it to him today. ____________________________________________________________
You began searching for England around the house but you were having no such luck. You checked the garden, he wasn’t there. The library, not there either…
You have looked around all the usual places and he wasn’t there. You then came across a room which looks like it is beginning to show some signs of age. It had some boxes that was caked with dust and had a musty smell. You really didn’t want to poke around but your curiosity took over you.
You placed your gift to England on the floor and look at some of the old photo albums. One picture piqued your interest. It was England together with a small boy. He looked around your age. But that wasn’t the only thing that caught your attention…England looked like he was actually…smiling.
You were about to turn the page of the album when you felt the presence of someone else in the room.
“Who told you to could enter here?” his voice was low.
You looked up and saw England staring at you with such intensity in his emerald eyes.
You instantly remembered the reason why you were here in the first place.
You took the small box and were about to give it to him but he immediately slapped the box out of your small hands. “Get out…”
You wanted to argue, “But I had s-something to gi-“
“Get out of this room NOW.” The Englishman practically roared at you to leave.
You couldn’t hold it in anymore; your eyes began to swell up with tears. You gave a curt nod and quickly left.
England must really hate you now.
Just as he too was about to leave he noticed the small box you brought into the room. He marveled at the way it was wrapped. The craftsmanship was indeed good for a child of your age.
He examined it more closely and there was a gift tag,
He gently shook it to identify its contents but it seems to be empty.
“Typical (c/n), she must have forgotten to place something inside.”
Looking at the small box in his hands he began to feel a twinge of guilt for getting so mad at you. He knew that you had no such ill intentions of coming into the room. England walked over to your room and knocked…
He tried again but before he could, you opened the door.
Your eyes were all puffy from crying and your hair was a complete mess as well.
He knelt down to your level and showed you the box.
“Is this really for me (y/n)?” You nodded. It was obvious you didn’t want to talk after what happened. The Brit understands that so he slowly left and closed the door softly behind him.
Once he headed back to his study, he further observed the box given to him as if something would pop out of it at any moment. England decided to open it and was surprised when he saw a note that read,
I’m so sorry for the ruined tea cup. I’m sorry for always making you angry. I’m sorry for making you sad. Please don’t hate me. - (c/n)
England felt tears coming out of his eyes uncontrollably. Mixes of emotions were welling up inside him.
He never really noticed that he was giving you the cold shoulder or that he has been so distant from you ever since you came here. He let his anger get the best of him.
Maybe the main reason he was so indifferent from you is because of how you reminded him of America…so innocent and naïve.
How could he make it up to you?
England then spent all night on unfinished paperwork to get his mind of things… ___________________________________________________________
The following morning was different. When England got out of his seat and he immediately headed towards your room.
You weren’t there. He decided to head to the gardens but he saw you once again in the kitchen attempting to make a cup of tea.
A small smile graced his features.
You didn’t seem to have noticed so you continued your work until he hugged you from behind.
“I’m so sorry (y/n). I’m sorry for making it look like I hate you…”
“It’s ok…It’s ok…”
Ever since then, the two of you grew closer to each other.
Years have passed and eventually you had grown to be an independent nation. There was no bloodshed in this. Though he was stubborn at first, England decided that you had to go to learn more about the world on your own.
He walked passed his mail box a little while back and he received a parcel. It bears no address or the identity of its sender.
The Englishman was took a sip of his tea and began opening the parcel.
It was the same small box from many years ago. It had the same wrapping paper and the same bow on top.
He carefully tore the wrapping paper to uncover the contents of the box and there was another note,
I will be celebrating my Independence day soon. Not that I didn’t like staying with you. You taught me a lot of things I could never really learn on my own. I miss you terribly. I wish we could meet with each other from time to time but being a country includes a lot of responsibility we can’t ignore can’t we? Anyway, I hope you are doing well and please take care - (c/n) P.S. Thank you for everything England~
I remember trying to do things for my mother like this, when she yelled at me for breaking something I was sad about it, just like the 'reader' in the story. I nearly cried reading it and feeling that same emotion. Thank you for writing this, it brought back good and bad memories. You did a very good job writing it and capturing the emotion.
